Chernigov Guberniya Map & Index
The basis for this map is an original Russian map published in
1910. The names of more than 1,100 cities, towns and villages
have been transliterated into the Roman alphabet. I have
included an index (in Cyrillic and Roman alphabets) of all of
the towns and cities that appear on the map; those in Russian
have been converted to post-Revolution orthography. The index is
a work-in-progress.
Please note that I found it difficult to discern on the original
map the differences in the font sizes used to designate towns of
fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, and those having a population of
1,000 - 2,000 inhabitants. There may, therefore, be some
inaccuracies in that regard.
Be advised that I am not a cartographer. This map is intended only to serve as an aid to
family researchers.
